Welcome our new Executive Director, Nataliya Novakova

The Board of the Civil Society Forum (CSF) is delighted to announce the appointment of Nataliya Novakova as the Forum’s new Executive Director effective from September 1, 2024, following an extensive search and selection process.

With over 15 years of experience in human rights and democracy initiatives across Wider Europe, Nataliya brings a wealth of expertise and vision to lead CSF into the future. Nataliya’s journey in human rights and justice began as an activist during Ukraine’s 2014 Revolution of Dignity. Most recently, she led the Europe division of the International Detention Coalition (IDC), working to uphold the rights of people on the move across the region. Her work has focused on human rights, migration and democracy. Check out her LinkedIn here.

“I am honoured to join the Civil Society Forum, as its mission of ‘civil society beyond borders’ deeply resonates with me,” says Nataliya. “We share common challenges across our region, and by uniting around human rights and democratic values, we can confront these challenges together. In a time when democracy is increasingly fragile, collaboration is essential for success.”

Nataliya’s priorities are:

  • Finalising and executing the upcoming five year strategy for the organisation
  • Launching the Berlin Hub, a networking platform for activists and civil society professionals in Berlin.
  • Strengthening the resilience of civil society organisations operating in restricted environments.
  • Further developing cooperation and solidarity networks among civil societies in the region.
  • Expanding opportunities for civic actors to engage in joint reflection and strategising on ways to protect democracy in Europe.

The CSF community welcomes Nataliya and looks forward to working together on the important work ahead. With her diverse geographical and professional background, plus a core passion and belief in our values, it is clear Nataliya is well-placed to lead CSF through our next years of operation.
